    Mary (Kompf) Mathews   February 27, 2010 Mary (Kompf) Mathews, 86, of Liverpool, passed away
    peacefully Saturday, with loving family by her side. She was born in Syracuse. Mary was a former
    employee of Carrier Corporation, General Motors Auto Workers Union and Equifax. She was a
    communicant and Eucharistic minister at Assumption Church, where she was former director of Gym
    Dandy Thrift Shop, and she volunteered at the food pantry and bingo. During WWII, she was a sergeant
    with the Civil Air Patrol. Mary was a former Cub Scout and Campfire Girls leader. Surviving are her
    husband of 64 years, John Mathews; children, Christine (Dave) Mathews of Liverpool, David of
    Baldwinsville, Gary (Lesley) of Chelmsford, MA, and Timothy (Lori) of Liverpool; brother, Robert (Lil)
    Kompf of Syracuse; grandchildren, Catherine, Elizabeth, Margaret, Kim, John, Andrew, Alyssa,
    Makenzie, Conor, Brennan, Cara, Eliza and Amanda; and 23 nieces and nephews. Funeral services
    will be 9 a.m. Wednesday March 3, 2010, at Maurer Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in Assumption Church,
    with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010,

    A prayer service for Augustus Smith who died Sunday
    afternoon while hanging paper in the house next door to his
    home, 107 Alexander Ave., will be held there at 2 o'clock in
    Syracuse Gospel Tabernacle. Burial will be in Oakwood

Obituary: The Syracuse Journal, Monday April 17, 1905 -  31 Years
    Mrs Mary Murphy Smith died on Sunday at her home, 1011
    South State St.  She was the wife of August Smith, and besides
    her husband she leaves her parents, Mr and Mrs John Murphy,
    four little children and three sisters, the Misses Elizabeth,
    Nellie and Margaret Murphy, one brother Matthew Murphy.
       The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday from the
    late home, and at 9:30 fro the Cathedral of the Immaculate
    Conception, wit burial in St. Agnes Cemetery.

    the 4 Children  Marian was adopted by Mary's parents (John and Ellen

  • 1910  Census show Augustus married Edith May ??? and they are
    living (121 Hotel St. in Syracuse).  Living with him at the time are
    Helen and Paul
  • 1920 Census shows August (58 yrs) and Edith May (38 yrs) with a 3
    year old son Raymond living at 283 Fremont in Syracuse
  • 1930 Census shows Edith May being widowed (47 years ) and
    Raymond (13) living at 476 Cutto St. in Syracuse. (So August must
    have died some time between 1920 and 1930.)
  • 1949 Herbert died - Herbert's obituary does not make mention of
    Edith May or Raymond.
  • 1960 Paul died - Paul's obituary mentions Step-mother Edith Smith
    and brother Raymond
NEW I have located an obituary and death cert for
August.  It doesn't give very much more information.

But still don't have anything about Edith or
Raymond.  If you can help me locate information I
would greatly appreciate it.
